Character Counts! Is Searching for Additiional Coaches

The Character Counts! Program has impacted thousands of children in Queen Anne's County since its launch in November of 2000. During the 2010-2010 school year alone, 106 character coaches visited local classrooms sharing lessons about the Six Pillars of Character- Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.

The Character Counts! Advisory Council is once again looking for volunteers willing to donate 15 minutes each week to visit a nearby classroom and discuss the importance of having good character with the students.  An introductory training, as well as lesson ideas and suggestions, are provided to help coaches become a trusted and influential role model in these young lives.

If you have any questions or are interested in becoming a character coach, please contact the Character Counts! Coordinator, Jacki Carter, at 410-758-6677 or jcarter@qac.org.

Queenstown Bank of Maryland would like to announce that Rani Ewing, of Easton, MD, was chosen as the winner in their preliminary round of the American Bankers Association’s Lights, Camera, Save! video contest. When first hearing about the contest Rani said, “I knew that it would be a great opportunity to educate my peers on how great it is to save money. In addition, I am always looking for opportunities to save money for college.” Rani Ewing is a freshman at Easton High School.

Queenstown Bank of Maryland joined local banks across the country in hosting the first level of the competition for the contest. Rani Ewing’s video was selected to represent Queenstown Bank of Maryland on a national level. “I knew that rhymes were very catchy, so I wrote a poem about saving money. I then added pictures, and a catchy slogan at the end,” said Rani when speaking of her video, “Cravings for Savings.”

“I was very excited when I learned about the contest because I thought it would be a positive way for our Bank to connect with teens in our area,” said Laura Schwink, team leader of Queenstown Bank of Maryland’s Lights, Camera, Save! campaign. Queenstown Bank of Maryland is planning on participating in the American Bankers Association’s Lights, Camera, Save! video contest again next year. Rani said, “I really enjoyed the movie-making process, and I learned a lot along the way. I will never turn down an opportunity to teach others about the importance of saving money.”

 Queen Anne's Chorale

The Queen Anne’s Chorale, under the direction of artistic director, Bob Huntington, has been rehearsing for a family-oriented April concert for the past weeks.  The Gala, “A Musical Menagerie’ has been carefully planned to delight the audience with music written about animals in our lives.  Mr. Huntington has included humorous and classical repertoire about many of our favorite animals for this concert.  Children in the audience are sure to be entertained by the music as a professional Balloon Artist, on stage, shapes critters according to each piece.

The Chorale will perform one concert this spring:

Date:  Saturday, April 21, 2012

Time: 7:00 p.m.

Location:  Todd Performing Arts Center at Chesapeake College,  Wye Mills, MD .

A short reception will be held after the performance so that Chorale members may greet the audience and personally thank them for attending.  Children from the audience will also have a chance for a closer look at the Balloon Artist as he fashions their favorite animals.

The Chorale is accompanied by Cynthia Bidinotto-Slate.

Tickets are $15.00 for adults and can be purchased at the door or from a Chorale member beforehand.  Children through high school are admitted free.  The venue is handicapped accessible.  For more information, please call 410 643 1314 or visit www.qachorale.org
